Washington is known to be: The Evergreen State, so it’s only natural that the Evergreen State Fair is uniquely, one of the very best in entertainment, food, livestock, rodeo, games, lumberjacks, ax throwing, bull riding, hobbies, and trades.
Don’t forget about the Evergreen Speedway and the tremendous fireworks displays that goes on in the evenings.
I can clearly recall, some years back, walking through the main street of the fair grounds. While walking past a small stand, a certain type of music caught my attention.
There was a young man, about 20 something, short black hair, about 5′ 10″ in height, slight of build, promoting his music. With a brief exchange of conversation, he told me that one day he would be famous.
He was selling/promoting his style of music on cassettes.
Never did catch his real name, but today he goes by the name of Yanni, and sure enough, he has made a name for himself. So…you never know who you’ll meet at the Evergreen State Fair. 🙂
Location And Time
The fair is in the city of Monroe, Washington. It’s physical address is : 14405 179th Ave SE, Monroe, WA 98272 Look on the maps for US Route 2 where it crosses over 179th Ave.
However, if you just head towards Monroe, don’t worry about finding the fair. You’ll see the cars parked all along the roadways leading up to it’s main gates.
One of the best things this Fair has going for it is the early bird entrance to the grounds. This is especially true for the first day during the week. Not only will you be able to get in early, but a real break on the cost of entrance per person!
Usually the Fair will begin towards the end of August. Each calendar day changes every year, but it’s always towards the end of August and runs for two weeks.
Need to get in touch with them for tickets? Give them a call at : 360- 805-6700. You can find out all you’ll need to know from the folks at the other end. 🙂
Where Can We Stay?
The Fair events brings together, all types of great people. Having a common bond, usually the outdoor type thinking, these folks do not hesitate to put in at the RV sites.
Some even choose to “rough it” with the tent camping sites with a first-come-first-served type of program.
Be aware though, that the RV-1 area is for those with horses (animals) and vendors only. It’s 88 RV sites fill up very fast. Located at the North end of the Fairgrounds.
Then the RV-2 sites where the general public can stay, is also available. It’s location is East of the Fairgrounds. Spaces can accommodate up to 42′ long RVs. Water and power are close by.
Showers and dumps are on the site also. So, rather than staying at a hotel or motel, why not consider “roughing it” with others? It will be great fun!
